I've got to tell you that this is a great season for Iris -- I've never seen more of them splattered over the wilds of Marin County.

I had been considering buying a macro lens, but a good macro lens is expensive and I've been finding that my lens (the new Canon 70-200 II "L" I.S. f-2.8 zoom) works well for close-ups with a 37mm extension tube.

I also have been using my 90 degree angle-finder. This allows me to get the camera right down to ground level -- and me too, by the way, for what it's worth.

I don't know how you're holding up, but I can tell you that getting old really sucks... Getting down on the ground isn't as easy as it used to be -- or maybe it's the getting up part that is the most difficult.
But well worth it I think, in the search of beauty.

An extension tube. I had not considered that. These are great shots. That poppy shot though is fantastic. I'm with you on the getting down on the ground issue. These days I think about it first and more times than not, I talk myself out of doing so. "Eh, its not worth it" and I move on.
I'm with you there Don...I think its the getting up that isn't a pretty sight for me.
Beautiful pictures of the iris. I really love the Springtime flowers.
I had to get down on the ground recently and realised that I could not get up again from the flat surface. I had to inch my body to the top of the stairs and get up by putting my feet down the stair well! Getting old sucks, but is the price we pay for still being alive! Great pseudo macro shots!
