Lucas Valley -- homes among Redwoods

Roughly, there are about four different ways to make your way from the hustle-and-bustle of Marin County into the tranquility of West Marin. These Redwood trees are along one of those routes -- the one that goes through Lucas Valley.

For years this grove of Redwoods has been a get-away for city residents -- it's that "other home or cabin in the country" that has always given the rich their bragging rights. But these days the roads are better and cars are faster so this part of Lucas Valley isn't all that remote anymore.

Well folks, what comes to mind is Joyce Kilmer's famous poem, "Trees", by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

And, in addition to poetry, there is a bit of sculpture among the Redwoods.
