Fireworks were invented in ancient China in the 12th century to scare away evil spirits, as a natural extension of the Chinese invention of gunpowder.

They really put on a spectacular show at the Marin County Fair -- and that might be part of the reason the admission price ($15 for adults) is so steep. But hey -- if you are a kid (((and who isn't))) you get free admission on opening day. Also all rides are free everyday.

Painting with light - oh how cool is that? This type of art is a real blast!

These are beautiul! I actually missed the fireworks last night, because some last minute guests stayed a really long time, and we weren't able to leave :( Seeing your pictures makes this a little better :)
F-n wild. These are atypical firework shots, and for that, I LOVE THEM. The last one looks like gold sizzlers on purple sticks, or something. Wild

Love them. Our company left early and Hubby has a horrendous cough so we missed the fireworks ourselves. Thanks for the peek.
THANKS PHOTOWANNABE SUE -- Sorry you missed the Works in your area... Glad I could fill in a bit...
AND EMMY AND JAN BELL -- Something strange seems to be happening, as your comments completely vanished. Emmy was saying that she missed the fireworks because of guests, and my buddy Jan gave me a nice compliment which I appreciate.
Anyway, Blogger must be having some problems today... Sorry your comments were lost...
