19 Broadway, Fairfax

Some towns, like Pacific Grove, where I grew up -- have a lot of churches...
Some towns, like San Francisco, over yonder -- have a lot of banks...
But where I live, Fairfax, California -- we have a lot of bars...

In addition to a bar every six feet, over the years Fairfax has become a counter-culture get-away from it all...   The heavily populated center of Marin County to the east is a bit of a hub-bub -- but relief is available -- just come west to Fairfax, my home town.   Bring your drum or guitar...

Yes, Fairfax -- the fringes of society -- where free-thinkers dwell, and where graying masses still hold firmly to the promises of the '60's...   (Alternatively, you can visit one of many bars)

this is a nice photo ... it doesn't look very "viril" for a bar ... those pstel colours are great but a bit girlish ;-)

Interesting choice of color for bar door. I do like the composition.

Wow, those colors, like a lomo. I didn't know there were places in the US with a lot of bars (but of course : what do I know about the US ?), I thought that was more an European habit. And : a fabulous fog shot !!!

I pass by Fairfax a lot but never really stop. Now I know I can get a drink anywhere.

I like the photo Don, it looks more like a candy store.

Fairfax!!!
I don't know why but I thought you lived somewhere between Lagunitas and Woodacre! OK, I was close...

I didn't realize Fairfax had so many bars! I never really noticed! I did notice that Fairfax is a little bit more reminiscent of the 60's/70's than the rest of Marin, and it's not a bad thing ...

I'll tell you a funny story, though (well, sort of). I used to drive all the way to that brewery (I forget the name now, but it's located right past the Post Office, I think, almost out of town when you drive towards San Anselmo, on that smaller, secondary road. The brewery looked a little bit industrial inside, with exposed beams, I think, but they used to serve surprisingly good wine and food, in there, really. Do you know the place I mean?).

Anyway, I used to drive back all the way to Fairfax just to go eat their Prince Albert Mussles (moules marinières) It was worth the drive, believe me! I don't know where the Chef trained, but I've never tasted mussels that good. About 4 years ago, they took the mussels out of the menu so I stopped going to Fairfax. Thanks for the memories, though!

Duh.. I think I left out the most important part. What I meant to say is that I no longer lived in Marin, but these mussels were totally worth bridge fees and driving a bunch of miles each way.

Sorry about the long comment, but if you could have tasted that dish, you'd understand (sigh)

THANKS FOR EVERYBODY'S COMMENTS,
AND, Hi Tomate Farcie,

Oh yeah, I know where you're talking about, but I've actually never been in there... I stopped drinking about ten years ago, which was probably a change for the better...

I remember when they were building their brewery, and one day I was admiring all of the beautiful stainless steel kettles and fixtures... (I worked in a paint factory for a long time in an earlier life, so some of the equipment looked familiar...

And mussels sound delicious... I've never eaten them for some reason... I love oysters but don't eat them very often either... I must not get out much...

My photo of the pink doors is kind of a disappointment for me -- I probably should have spent some time Photoshopping some detail into the blown-out window on the right, or just crop off the right side of the photo... I think I got a little carried away with the saturation slider... Maybe the photo would look better cropped to a square...

Anyway, that's 19 Broadway, and I've never been in there...

UPDATE: Monday 12:15 PM

I worked on the photo a bit and got some detail into the right window, but still, the left window might be a bit too garish... That's the effect I was going for, so I shouldn't change my mind...
