GIF or JPEG -- the Lagunitas Creek

I have a few pools along the bucolic Lagunitas Creek, each with their best time of the day for reflections. These were taken downstream near the north boundary of (Samuel P.) Taylor State Park. Image rendered as a GIF, with 16 colors, going for a painterly look.

These (above) are JPEGs that have been rendered as GIFs, with a limited color range, just 16 here. Just something experimental. Probably not best suited for these particular subjects. Or as my buddy in Ohio would say; "doesn't do much for me".

Actually, these standard JPEGs are perhaps more pleasing with a smooth rendering of the JPEG's "millions" of colors. How many colors can YOU see?
