down by the creek

Okay, okay, I got the message -- yesterday's header pretty much stunk. So bad that I'm not even going to show it today unless you click on this link.

Oh, I guess you had to be there to get any sort of appreciation out of the scene.   And there, I think, lies part of the problem.   You weren't.

The moist day and it's soft lighting was incredible.   On Sunday morning it had been raining -- Dullsville for a photographer -- but when the skies cleared enough in the afternoon for me to get out with my camera I was in that proverbial "Heaven" that everybody talks about.

Continuing...   I suppose I was going for a dreamy and limited focus effect with just a bit of foreground in focus with the rest of the image blurred.   It was sort of an experiment, but actually it was because I was too lazy to take my tripod along with me on the adventure.   Stopping my lens down to f-32 for maximum depth-of-field would have required a very long exposure.

But it gives me the opportunity to realize that I, having been there in the moment with memories of the very fine day, am probably not the best judge of my own work.   That's where you fine folks come in with the poll/voting system.   Oh, I suppose the two "stinks" votes I got on the image in question was well deserved -- yep, you got my attention.   But I hope you realize that I can do better.

You know, I think I have benefitted from every bit of negative criticism I've ever received -- and believe me, I've gotten a lot of it -- not on this blog but in some of the other places and forums in which I've participated.   After the initial sting I usually buckle down and am inspired to do better.   I thank you all very much for your input.

I love the way you capture lines and the difficult lighting in the Redwoods. Good stuff that makes me long for those forests.

Gee, I must have been asleep at the switch yesterday. I missed a stinker? I think all your photos are above that.

Thanks PHOTOWANNABE SUE -- as always I appreciate your comments. These today are from the Samuel P. Taylor State Park area (which they just call Camp Taylor now), an area you know well having camped there as a kid. O-kiddo... Where did our youth go?

And thanks SINBAD'S DAD -- yep, it was a stinker all right. Stunk SO bad that I had to take another shower a few minutes ago.

I agree with Photowannabe, you capture perfectly the soul, the ambiance, the colours and textures of the woods dear Donald!

Have a great weekend!
