I must thank everyone for their comments on yesterday's post -- I realize I shouldn't be fishing for comments, but they sure are encouraging...   Sometimes when I'm out there clicking away in nature I wonder if anybody is actually going to see, or appreciate my stuff...   A few years ago I was complaining to an artist buddy of mine that I was having difficulty getting anyone to visit my blog, let alone getting them to leave a comment -- but he gave me some good advice; telling me that I needed to be motivated by my own internal inspiration, and not by the praise of others...   I've always tried to remember that advice...

What a beauty - love the grasses in front!
And for comments - while there will always be comments, that are merely written to get comments in return - I think most of the comments you will find on your own website are genuine and from individuals, that care. And that for me is extremely encouraging. Your friends advice (from where I stand) is directed more to your own, mental motivation, to get you to be satisfied with what you do.
Comments are however the outside motivation that will make you strive for getting better every day!
Cheers, Klaus

P.S.: Fixed the Links in Skywatch. Your suggestion was spot on! Thanks!
Cheers, Klaus

Don, I llove how the sunlight makes the oats glisten. This is a keeper.
Love to comment on your posts because they are far and away better than most I see. Besides I think of you as a friend and its fun to catch up on what motivates you.
As I've always said, post whats your passion and enjoy the strokes along the way.
Yes..re your comment...I am going a bit nuts with black. Its mainly because I shot things exclusively for Project Black and had a choice. I will be glad to get back to regular posting though.

Hey, almost everybody likes comments. It just feels good when you wake up in the morning, to see that someone, somewhere on the other side of the world, or right on the other side of the bridge ;) gave you a virtual high-5 or another viewpoint on the idea you posted...

The Internet is a lot of things, but it's also a fantastic tool (although not perfect) for communication between people. As I'm sure you know, we used to communicate with text only before (newsgroups, bulletin boards, IRC), but even with these limited means, it was awesome to be able to reach out to the world.

And now, people post their ideas with multimedia, photographs, music, and others find them on the Net because they have similar interests or ideas, or share the same hobbies or the same virtual friends ... How cool is that!

To go back to blogging and comments, I've seen that some of the best blogs don't have any comments or very few (fogbay.com comes to mind) There may be a number of reasons for that, but that doesn't mean they're not top blogs.

The sharply focused oats gives everything else a dreamy look. I really, really like this photo.

The header photo is again in the oustanding catagory. You have been doing a lot of those lately.

Buy a lot of ink for the 2880. You'll need it, with all of your great photos.

Thanks for the visit,
Troy and Martha

How just changing the focus makes such a difference in this picture and yesterday's. The light on the oats is fabulous.

Comments? Well, they're nice, but not required. I'm new at this and I visited blogs and commented before I ever started (or thought it even possible that I would start) blogging myself. Now I'm doing it, and I like comments, but they don't seem to rule me. (I hope not anyway.) When I get them, I always hope they are sincere and not someone just paying me an obligatory return visit. I know my comments are because I really like something, and with what I've seen of your work, I have no doubt that everyone who comments on your work is the same.

It does all boil down to what is your own internal inspiration. And what if you're the only one who likes something you put out there (which I can't imagine)? It's OK. But I for one thank you for putting things out there because they inspire ME and are part of what makes me want to improve my own photography.

THANKS EVERYONE !
Just wanted to thank everyone for their input.
Much appreciated.

--And Louise, --I can't wait until you get your own blog...   I'm sure your photos will be just as pretty as you are!

Best regards, Don.

Another fantastic sunset shot! I love how the seeds shine.

I hear ya about the comments, as well as your buddy's advice. Feedback is always good, in the end, it's what's inside us that is the reason for doing it.

I have a bookmark folder of photo blogs I try to visit every day. I don't always leave comments, though. I mean, how often and how many different ways can I say "great photo!" LOL It starts to feel a bit silly and redundant, even though it's completely genuine. ;-)

But I keep coming back. :-D

This photo and yesterday's are both great, but the mood they covey is so different. Your work is amazing.

Comments? Seems to me that the blogging part of what we do is all about communicating and getting feedback. Comments are necessary to accomplish those goals -- and praise is nice, too.

this is another photo, don. i just can't help but to comment. i do blog hop when i can and when am so touched or impressed, i tried to leave comments as much as i can and with the cooperation of the internet connection.

"comments' in my blog. appreciate it especially when the post asks for suggestions - but if there's none it's fine. i just love to know my posts are read and people come by to visit or read - not necessarily leave a comment. :)

hey, would love to add this blog to my blogroll. hope to come back to peep on your beautiful pictures. :)
