The "Lake at Nicasio" seems to sound much better than "Nicasio Reservoir", but the lake was created back in the 1950's to provide for the increasing water needs of Marin County residents.

I'm thankful for the water Lake Nicasio provides, and I also appreciate the dramatic photo-opportunities in the area.

The lake is large enough to generate it's own bit of ground or radiation fog -- you can see it in this photo coming off the surface of the water. The lake will sometimes be foggy when the rest of Marin County isn't. Fog is difficult to predict -- it just sort of happens, and the best strategy for a photographer is just to "be there" when conditions are just right.
