late afternoon at Rodeo Beach

Although there is another trail that will get you there, a very low tide at Rodeo Beach opens up an opportunity to visit it's southernmost region.   Late in the day light will reflect off the wet sand revealing an abstraction of the yellow and green cliffs.   Throw in a pretty girl or a bird and I think it's a pretty good photo-opportunity.

On my visits I'm usually assured of seeing a few big ships chugging their way to or from the Golden Gate.   This oil tanker is making his approach from the North.

Exposed only at low tide, the appropriately named Staghorn Kelp covers the rocks like fur.

Perfect place for a school field-trip -- you'll see groups of kids out here all the time learning about the ecology of the area.   What always strikes me is how well behaved they are -- they seem to be thoroughly interested in the discovery process.

These folks were having a great time on this improvised see-saw.   It's almost always in use by kids, big and small.

These are a pleasure to thumb through and I particularly like the top two. I love that gold reflection in the water and of course the girl dressed in gray is perfectly placed. In the second photo I really like the green in the breaking wave and the ship partially obscured by the fog.

I went to your "Big" site. Amazing that I now correspond with someone who actually sat down with Ansel Adams. What a joy that must have been. Please feel free to give me any constructive criticism on my photos as it is obvious that you are a skilled photographer.

Thanks SCOTT -- I think your work is great too (((oh, what was that song back in the late '50's about a mutual-admiration society)))

But yep, meeting Ansel Adams twice back in the '60's was indeed a special event. He was SO kind to me, although my work pretty much stunk. He advised me to get a good education because making money from photography was a tough cookie. How I ever mustered enough courage to go talk to him, I'll never know -- I was paralizingly timid in those days (and still am).

Very cool blog you have, Scott, and through it I've also discovered Don Pritchard's site (gotta love that name "Don")

All the best to you, Scott, and happy shooting.

Love that kelp shot and thanks for ID'ing it. Staghorn is a great name for it.

The golden sand shot is my favorite. So lovely. Beaches and play just go together.

Love that photo of the wave.
My first time at Rodeo Beach was my sophomore year in High School... not too long ago. Now I love going back there once in awhile. I like hiking there.
