Well, by the size of the house, I imagine they must have had a lot of kids.

I guess they would have been raising cattle. Probably as early as the 1860's.

A slow walk through the Olema Cemetery will reveal where a lot of these farming and ranching people came from. Italians and Portuguese, and Sicilians, and even a smattering of Norwegians. The great-melting-pot of nationalities--right here in the Olema Valley, west Marin County, California.

D.S. Livingston's book "A Good Life: Dairy Farming in the Olema Valley" gives info and photos of this house's history, the Sarah Seaver Randall 1881 home, a widow with 5 children, a profitable dairy/butter producer...

love your work. long time fan of Mt. Tam, Nicasio Reservoir and Marin Co. in general.

Thank you PATRICIA WILSON for the information. I think I've invented a new (lazy) form of journalism (???) where I just ask questions about places, admitting my ignorance in the mean time, and then standing back and letting my viewers write the stories and fill in the blanks. Seems to work great. Thanks again, Patricia, I'm going to chase down that book.

Similar to Wkikpedia. Let those who know fill in the blanks. ;-)

Mr. Kinney,

some might call it lazy; some might call it smart and efficient!

you will enjoy that book, i think, as it tells the stories of many Marin families and prominent properties.

regards, Patricia
