I often like to joke that just like a dog my camera enjoys going on walks, but on Saturday I met up with a small group of like-minded photo enthusiasts for a "camera walk" and we had great fun snapping-up-a-storm. Yes, fun!

The Ferry Building's Farmer's Market bustled with activity and colorful food.

I'll have more tomorrow about Jerry Downs, the professional photographer who led this walk, but he encouraged me to get out of my comfort-zone and "shoot" some people. Oh don't worry--I wasn't using real bullets.

Tomorrow I'll report on the photo-walk we did on Sunday in San Rafael.

I love the one you took of the shadow on the music stand, with just a hint of the musician. Masterful framing!

Good on Jerry. I think you'd do well picture taking people.

Thanks ZOOMIE -- I also got some cool shots of a really good saxophone player, but that is all it was--just a photo of the fellow playing the instrument. I think this of the bow, hand and music has a bit more "feeling" to it.

and Hi SINBAD'S DAD (JOHN) -- Oh, I am such a shy person in "real life" that it is almost a handicap, but I took plenty of people-pictures when I was a kid. I had my own portrait studio set up in my room and shot anyone who would fall victim to my scheme. I also worked briefly at age 16 for a photographer who took portraits of Army recruits during their basic training at Fort Ord. My job aside from carrying equipment was to try to maintain some semblance of order and to straighten their ties if needed. And gosh, a year ago I even was asked to shoot a wedding at SF City Hall for a good friend. I guess I did okay, but I'm sure someone with more experience could have pulled it off more expeditiously. For me, these days, I like shooting people candidly--but sometimes that can be a dangerous venture if caught.
