mudhen at Phoenix Lake

All the while I was at Phoenix Lake I was trying to remember how many years it had been since I had last visited.   And although Phoenix Lake is located in the shadow of Mount Tamalpais -- behind the exclusive but tiny town of Ross, just two towns from where I live -- I finally determined I hadn't been there for about 35 years.   Shame on me, because it's a really great lake -- just not where I normally do my exploring, and parking is extremely limited.   I promised myself I would be back.   Some really great hiking trails are in the area.

I was born at Ross General hospital during the time my Dad worked at the shipuards. My ignorance is showing all over the place. I never heard of this lake before. Going to have to do some exploring sometime.
Thanks for showing me new places and things through your lens.

Hi Photowannabe Sue,

I know we've talked about this before, but we sure seem to have a lot in common...

During the war (WW2 for you youngsters) my brother, Mom, Grandma and Grandpa lived on Bolinas Avenue, on the border of San Anselmo and Ross, but of course I didn't come along until 1947, and I always brag about being born in Carmel...

My Grandmother (full of piss-and-vinegar) died in the 1980's, but made her home in Kentfield. She was widely known throughout the community as the lady who would babysit up to 20 kids at a time -- and maintain perfect order. She eventually upped her prices, but only charged 50 cents an hour, no matter how many rugrats mothers dropped off.

Of course, during the war Dad was off in the South Pacific, but Grandpa worked (as your dad did) at Marinship in Sausalito building Liberty Ships. When Dad got home from the war my brother couldn't figure out who he was, and it was a constant source of friction between them -- oh how sad...

My Aunt and several cousins still live in this area (Marin County). It's no longer in existence, but my aunt owned and operated Creative Merchandisers in San Rafael for 45 years.

Anyway, thanks Photo-Sue for the trip down memory lane... --By the way, Ross Hospital, where you were born, eventually got torn down and replaced by upscale apartments.
