Some shots are easier than others...
Actually, in the first (horizontal) photo I resorted to using Photoshop's "SmartBlur" tool, which blurred the overly busy background detail while retaining edge sharpness. Accentuated the dreamy quality, also...
This second (vertical) shot was sufficiently "dreamy" from the get-go, so no "SmartBlur" was needed.
