Marin County, the area just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, has a plethora of little out of the way places that even many local residents don't know exist.   And one of those is a huge tract of land near the town of Woodacre -- it's the Gary Giocominni Open Space, complete with towering Redwoods and a little creek that isn't so little this time of year.

Over the past 40 years the Marin County Open Space District has purchased and set aside in perpetuity from development an extensive system of parks including 34 open space preserves that total 19,300 acres and 190 miles of trails.

In addition to Open Space District purchases of raw land, individuals and families sometimes donate their land to the district -- as the Giocominni family did 20 or so years ago.   We, the residents of Marin County appreciate and see the value of our rustic and unimproved natural areas -- they're great for recharging the spirit and uplifting the soul.   Amen...
