San Francisco -- old and new

If I'm not mistaken, this was Bank of America headquarters near Market Street until they built their ugly but towering brown behemoth over at 555 California Street.

On the left is the old Transamerica Insurance Building (now the Church of Scientology) and the pointed tower on the right is the new Transamerica Building -- now a distinctive part of the San Francisco skyline.

And this ornate detail is the entrance to the Mills Building at 220 Montgomery. Nope, they just don't build them this way anymore.

Great series! I love looking up at buildings and can never get enough of those Art Deco ones downtown SF.
Have you ever been inside the Scientology building? It's supposed to be really nice (I peaked, once) but these people creep me out too much to actually go inside.
HI TOMATO -- Yep, there are some real gems down there in the Fi-Di, as you well know.
And that's really brave of you to even peek into the Scientology place -- I think I'd be packing some garlic and a crucifix if I were to try that.
I don't know if they're still around, but there used to be an organization called "Lifespring" -- they were even worse than the Scientology folks.
Seriously, I have never understood why people need to organize into these psuedo religions instead of just using common sense and the space between their ears.
I think a lot of 'those folks' are psychologically fragile and cannot rely on the space between their ears. And somehow they always find others like themselves - that's the amazing thing.
This is an especially good series of photos.
So . . . How do you really feel about the new Bank of America HQ? :-) I like these snippets of the old and the new. Nice work.
Thanks HOOLY AND SCOTT, and of course TOMATO for your kind comments.
And how do you really feel about Scientology?
Fine upstanding pics... a good area to wander around.
