Well, imagine my surprise seeing these super-sized plastic bottles as I was 'rounding HighwayOne at the corner of Shoreline and Point Reyes Station to Petaluma Road.

Big bottles filled with little bottles -- oodles of them -- making quite a statement in the otherwise natural and rather beautiful setting.

Yes... it is quite a thought provoking statement in that natural location.

I'm glad you like them.

I picked up the plastic bottles during all of 2010 from the beaches of Point Reyes National Seashore. The caps are buckets also found on the beach.

I estimate that 98% of the bottles you see entered the water far from Point Reyes. Many bottles still have labels showing their place of manufacure to be Japan, China, Korea, Russia, Malaysia and one from Greece.

What you don't see is all the fishing gear, plastic packaging, foam, foam, foam (as in styrafoam) tennis balls, shotgun wads and beach toys also collected.

Feel free to visit the blog dedicated to my efforts to clean the beaches of Point Reyes and beyond:
