Point Cavallo & Travis Marina + GG Bridge

I don't know if I should keep this a secret or not, but the less visited side of the Golden Gate Bridge is on the Marin County side.   This is Travis Marina.

The Coast Guard has a station here.   They have the grim task of recovering the bodies of bridge jumpers.   In 2008, 34 jumped; and in 2009, 31 took the leap.   Add it all up -- over 1300 suicide deaths in the 72 years since the Golden Gate Bridge opened.

And I've definitely got to keep this a secret because people aren't supposed to be in this particular set of bunkers (Battery Cavello).   There was a hole in the fence.   Holes in the ground too, which is probably one of the reasons why they have the area fenced off.

A great hike at the Golden Gate Bridge is down the road beneath the northern approach support structures.   Trucks and cars rumble overhead.   The beams are massive and the maintenance and painting is continuous.

On your hike you'll probably spot large ships threading their way towards the "Potato Patch", the choppy channel under and out past the bridge.

I shot this 2-1/2 weeks ago, but it was taken from the place with the million dollar view at Point Cavallo.   An upscale hotel has been built adjacent to and within the old military buildings at Fort Baker.

That's Alcatraz out there; and for you sleepy-heads, that's the morning sun.
