Thistles on Mount Tamalpais

Oh, it's a busy world out there... Places to go, other creatures to see, and of course -- the all important effort to put food on the table and to raise the young.

These are Thistles, but I understand they are called Teasels in different parts of the world. Their sharp spines are quite good at protecting them from grazing animals and photographers who get just a bit too close.

They are this most beautiful magenta color until they die and go to seed.

I've only ever seen thistles in Winnie the Pooh...and I must say your photographs are infinitly more beautiful, and the colors are perfect; what a lovely shade of purple :)
