Mount Tamalpais on LSD

Once in a while when life starts getting really boring, and I have made an otherwise "hopeless" photo, I like to see how it looks when displayed with a limited number of colors. Sometimes the results can be rather surprising, and sometimes I end up with just a genuine mess. The jury is still out on this rendering (above). I suppose some will like it a lot and others will hate it with a passion--I don't think there is any room for "middle-ground" here.

The first image was made using Photoshop's "posterizing" filter, but the second and third were made by saving the image in an unconventional manner--as a .gif instead of a normal .jpeg. When saving images as .gifs there is an option to select the number of colors, from 2 to 256, and of course the results vary widely.

The image was made in September 2007.

And here is another. Again, click on the photo (above) to see the .jpeg image with a full range of tones. Image was made in September 2007.

Interesting effects, but I'd have left that third image alone - it's beautiful just as you took it with that wisp of lighted cloud, gentle drift of fog, and strong mountain.

Hi ZOOMIE -- I agree with you wholeheartedly that the 3rd image looks better un-messed with. I even feel more strongly that the second one looks better as a straight full range image. Experiments--exploring all the possibilities. Always appreciate feedback... Running them up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes, so to speak. I posted the first image on a FB group I belong to and it got a lukewarm reception--that speaks volumes. SO difficult for me to select what is good and what is not.

Just about what I almost commented yesterday when I saw that photo in your header - "Oops, looks like Donald dropped some acid."

LOL, JOH (SINBAD'S DAD) Not to worry--haven't tripped in decades--did enough in years past to last a lifetime. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone either. Hell, I don't even drink anymore--now, THERE is a bad habit, IMHO.

I actually like the psychedelic first image for the bright, weird colors and shapes. Maybe not my favorite of yours, but still fun and unusual.
