I never quite make it past "The Stinking Rose" in San Francisco's Northbeach without snapping a few photos through the windows.

This restaurant is known for serving-up garlic to the point of excess. They pride themselves on flavoring their garlic with food--not the other way around.

Molanari's Delicatessen, just up the street on Columbus Avenue, always has an enormous display of authentic Italian food imports in their window.

Northbeach began as an Italian community, but in the 1950's the Beatnik generation arrived in full-force with free-form jazz and a counter-culture way of looking at life. In the 1960's the pornographers got a toe-hold and found they could make big-bucks by serving up a mixture of nudity and alcohol. Who would have guessed...

I've always subscribed to the attitude that pornography eventually boils down to violence against women, but if you want to explore this from a purely sociological perspective, excuse me and then CLICK for a 3 frame animated "gif" of the Naked Neon Lady doing her little dance.

CLICK for the very "best" of my work on my photo website.
