Oh, I know I'm pushing the limits with my choice of subject material here, but I can't resist stating that this scrawl in Chinatown has more soul and creativity than 90% of the rich-man's CRAP that hangs across town at our overly pretentious and stuffy Museum of Modern Art.
Actually, folks, if you want to see some photography that has the ultimate amount of soul, you'll want to get yourself down to the Ever Gold Gallery, 441 O'Farrell St, tonight between 6 and 10 to see the work of Travis Jensen and Brad Evans. It's a party to kick off their new book "Tenderloin USA, A Photojournalistic Odyssey Through One of San Francisco's Most Vibrant Neighborhoods" and all profits are being donated to Larkin Street Youth Services. Chinatown must be a real conundrum to the executives at Safeway and some of the other food chains. They have been unable to establish a toe-hold in Chinatown because the local population prefers small independent shops. It's how this country of ours was built.

This shop-keeper is one of my heros. Instead of just barking orders he actually gets in and does stock work. Okay, okay--he DOES bark a lot of orders but at least he has a hands-on approach.

Oh yeah, perhaps you've heard that our piggy bank, the United States of America, needs to borrow 40 cents of every dollar it spends from the Chinese government. We are OWNED by the Chinese. Undoubtedly it would be painful but maybe THEY can get us back on the right path.

Wow I'd love to visit there sometime! Gives me ideas to visit the local Farmer's Market some time and take photos there!
