Point Reyes National Seashore, about 40 miles north of San Francisco, is a huge area and much of it isn't seashore at all. A forest fire ravaged the area in 1987 and many of these skeletons remain although the forest has largely recovered.

These old skeletons managed to avoid that big forest fire. Mossy trees love the moist fog, and there is a wealth of life -- much of it vert small and creepy-crawly -- depending on this rich eco-system.
