In 1969 the USS Hornet recovered the Apollo 11 space capsule and the first men to walk on the moon. A few months later she also recovered the Apollo 12 capsule and it's all Navy crew.

The capsule shown here isn't one of the actual Apollo capsules, but it is similar in size, shape, and weight -- it was used as a "crash-test-dummy" during development.

It all seemed so exciting at the time. So much fun to hear of travels through nothingness and exploration of places man had never been before.

"Hmmm"... "Lets see, was I supposed to turn left at the moon or the last astroid"?

I just *knew* you'd be at the street painting festival yesterday. I thought about going too but somehow the swimming pool distracted me.

Very cool shots of the space capsule. I can't tell you how much I envy you that opportunity. Thanks.
