Bay to Breakers 2009

On the left is this year's women's winner:   Teyba Erkesso, 26, of Ethiopia.   Time: 38min. 29sec.   She won $40,000.

On the right is Lineth Chepkurui, 21, of Kenya, who finished second in the women's race.   Time: 38min. 35sec.

This shot was taken along the Divisidero cross-over, just before the Three Mile Marker.   They're just cruising here, chatting and telling jokes -- the Hayes Street Hill was out of the way -- but they still had four-and-a-half miles to go.

Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, Elvis, and Elvis are all alive and they all live in San Francisco!

Several lads from the San Francisco Gay Chorus gave an impromptu concert.   Their exuberance was only exceeded by their enthusiasm.

Fashion statement or not, that suit doesn't look too comfortable...
Guy on the right is getting cooled-off by a Super-Soaker.

Maybe it was the warm weather, but I've never seen so many naked people in the race.   I saw more naked old fat men than I really needed to see, but I guess no harm was done...   Lots of naked couples too -- if you click this link you can see a photo of the naked couple that asked me to take their picture with their camera.

Great photos again.

I don't think we are in Exmore any more.

Great shots of the wierdest race around. That wedgie looks so uncomfortable...especially after 6 miles of chaffing.

I adored it and took lotsa photos myself. Was tempted to get naked myself because the weather was so perfect, but I didn't have sufficient sunscreen and there were way too many beautiful young people all around me who didn't need to see another fat, middle-aged dude with his clothes off.

Nice shots and thanks for the judicious cropping on the guy with the nose ring and the umbrella. One shudders to imagine.

Looks like you got up early enough to photograph the serious runners! Good for you :)

Kudos to the naked people for paying their entry fees, BTW! Last year, some guy from Idaho (or Ohio, I forget?) asked me to take a picture of himself with his camera. He told me he makes the trip to SF every year to walk the race (in the nude). Friendly guy, just likes to walk around in the nude, I guess. To each his own ;)

By the way, funny you chose to display Elvis as well. I imagine you must have taken a million pictures, no? You got pretty good ones! Well done!

Cool set of photos!

I especially like the guy with the nose ring and umbrella.

I mostly hung out at the beginning, after finding a place to sneak in. But next year I think I wander near the end.

Carnaval this weekend...
