This is Alpine Dam, along the Fairfax-to-Bolinas Road, on the northern flanks of Mount Tamalpais.

It's always fun driving across the rim of the dam -- a large lake on one side and a sheer drop-off on the other -- almost room for two cars to pass...

A closer view of the spillway.   It never spills more than it's spilling right now.

You could say that this is the beginnings of the Lagunitas Creek, although this water, for now, just flows into in Peter's Dam, about three miles downstream.

It's a raging torrent now, but come back in three months and you're only going to find a trickle.

Oh, did I forget to mention that the place is beautiful?

The last 3 shots are spectacular. Yup, just a few weeks and it'll almost dry up.
