From 1910 through 1940 an Immigration Station on the northeast corner of Angel Island in San Francisco Bay processed approximately one million Asian immigrants. It has been called the "Ellis Island of the West". But not all who applied were granted access to U.S. soil -- many were sent back to their homeland from this "Island of Tears".
