special edition -- Oil Spill in S.F. Bay
Kitty and I went out yesterday afternoon for a bit of birdwatching... These Mallards will be fine -- if they stay right where they are now... You may have heard about our 58,000 gallon fuel-oil spill from a ship bumping the Bay Bridge... The slick extends out the Golden Gate, fouling all my favorite beaches, north and south... It's a genuine mess...     [ from yesterday's KittyBlog ]

hey don,

just wondering how the oil disaster is affecting your habitat up there?

we went to point reyes and muir beach last week and both were showing signs of environmental stress.

Hi Plug1,

I haven't seen any of the disaster yet -- don't think they're going to let me get too close... --What a fiasco with the officials turning away (and even arresting) people willing to help...

We need double-bottom ships, and maybe ships that don't burn the highly poluting bunker oil -- but of course, that's not going to happen...

It's a mess, and will be for a long time... Parts of the fragile ecology will probably never recover... Oh well, at least I have photos from when it was still nice...
