Coit Tower -- all lit up

I snapped this view of San Francisco on Friday morning, and because I was working with the camera and tripod so fast and furiously I didn't even notice that Coit Tower was illuminated in red. Oh, my first and best guess is that the color represents support of the San Francisco 49'ers, a football team which I generally couldn't care a rat's-ass about these days.

I'm not sure who has the concession or contract on colored lights, but lighting up buildings colorfully for one reason or another has become a regular occurrence in our fair city. When the San Francisco Giants (that's baseball) is on a roll, the town including City Hall turns orange.

Now, this [above] of a side of Coit Tower is not new, but snapped on September 11, 2011. Three guesses of what it commemorates...

And this photo of the Transamerica Pyramid was also snapped on that same evening of September 11, 2011. I really like this image--hope you do too.

Not for the 49ers (who are pathetic this year, according to My Beloved), but for the Giants, who are soon to start in the World Series again, third time in five years. Go, Giants!

Dear ZOOMIE -- Okay, I beg to disagree with your husband. He could be right, but red has always represented the 49ers and orange has always been the color for the Giants. Last night, when preparing the blog I had to do some Googling -- this is what I found (on Yelp, of all places)
[begin quote] I just called the number listed for Coit Tower...the guy there said that the red lights were up for a promotion with the 49ers. Hohumm what a disappointment. I thought it would be something really cool…[end quote]
In any case, it doesn't seem logical that anyone would be lighting up anything for the 49ers, as they are doing so poorly, especially after last night's slaughter, so maybe it IS for the Giants after all. I'm sure SOMEONE will chime in with a confirmation one way or the other, although I don't know how many sports fans actually visit this blog.

Way to scoop the world, Donald. In the middle of a Giants World Series, SF Wreck & Park is doing a "promotion" with the 49ers, probably for more money for Ginsburg and his minions. It will be orange gels again before you know it.

I don't give a rats ass about sports either but your image is transcendent, far more than the sports team of the day.
