Presidio Pet Cemetery

A major problem highway designers faced in planning the new southern approaches to the Golden Gate Bridge was figuring out how to protect the fragile and historic Presidio Pet Cemetery during construction -- right there in the middle of it.

Cal-Trans was more than delighted to receive their chunk of "free" Stimulus money for the highway project -- replacement of the crumbling "Deadly Doyle Drive" has been way overdue.

During construction the 100 foot square pet cemetery is being protected by a massive overhead structure. The memories of the pets of the military personnel who served at the Presidio will live on, unscathed.

I will skip your written entry tomorrow because I think I get the picture.

Now I recall awhile back you mentioning the Presidio Pet Cemetery. When I saw Kitty's picture my inside voice went "ahhh". I'll be here tomorrow.

I'm so glad the Pet Cemetery is protected. I was wondering if that could possibly happen.
Great shots. I love the lone geranium.
My word verification is funny. It should be a "Music Man" song.

I am so glad they are going to keep the pet cemetery. As to your best friend, Kitty ... I hope I'm wrong about tomorrow's post.

I was by there a couple of months ago and was saddened to see what was once a shady grove has really lost some of the old charm as the construction eliminated some of the nearby eucalypus trees. And the cemetery was surrounded by a temporary chain link fence, making shooting nearly impossible. I heard though that the fence will come down by the end of this year.

The pet cemetery looks really overtaken by all kinds of weeds these days. I better they won't be short of volunteers to help clean that all up when it's time to reopen. Heck I might go help them.

It's beautiful but I agree - get some volunteers and get it cleaned up. Wouldn't take much!
