streaming sunlight -- China Camp

How disappointing… Today I definitely chose the wrong morning to sleep in. When I finally joined the conscious-world at 6am, it was just in time to see a pleasing set of yellow clouds that I would be missing out on. Fortunately, I was able to snap this morning scene [above] at China Camp on Thursday.

a new day -- and yet another opportunity

It starts with only a promise, but it ends up illuminating a completely new day… An opportunity to take a another stab at everything I didn't accomplish yesterday.

My prayers for big and dramatic cumulous clouds have gone unanswered...

Sometimes dramatic and sometimes subtle. Sometimes as bright as a welder's arc. I've been standing by, patiently, for bright colors! Will keep you posted.

out of the way places -- quieter than normal spaces

2010 census data adds up to a whopping 7,002,425 for the 9 Bay Area counties including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma. Roughly, a 50 mile diameter area.

Yet within this incredibly overpopulated zone, it is still possible to find quiet places, mostly at odd hours, where traces of most humanity all but vanish.

image smackdown -- go shoot it again, Don

Well, I've wrestled with this image to the point where I've decided I just need to return and shoot it again. No amount of trickery is going to restore the sharpness that escaped capture in the original. Yes, sniff and weep, I will return another day and try again.

breaking the rule of the Histogram

click photo for full-size image

Generally speaking, photographs are supposed to have a full range of tones; from dark and black to light and white, but on occasion atmospherics prevail. If you look carefully you might detect a very foggy Mt. Tamalpais.

The Histogram is a graphical representation of the brightness values in a photograph. Adjustments are made by sliding the small triangles at the base. Normally I would utilize the blank space on the right side of this Histogram--that would cheer-up the tonal range substantially, but the result wouldn't have been true to the subject.

These two images in today's post don't exactly work well together,
but nevertheless, here--have a thin moon over Hawk Hill.
