a versatile Lagunitas Creek

It can fill your eyes, fill your ears, and occasionally even get you wet -- the very versatile Lagunitas Creek can do it all...

"Lagunitas", in Spanish means "little lagoons".   Aptly named, I think.

Oh it's a rushing creek now, but about five miles downstream the mighty Lagunitas will flow into Tomales Bay near Point Reyes National Seashore.

San Francisco at sunrise

On Sunday morning I suppose I didn't have anything better to do so I fell-by Aquatic Park to watch the sun come up.

Like a truck driver parked in front of a popular cafe, when you see an Egret you have probably found a very nice spot.

Innocently soaring? --Or maybe on it's way over to the trees at Coit Tower to see about picking-off a breakfast of wild Parrot.

I'm imagining that the venrable old Sunrise has seen a lot of of them.

what color is your bridge?

Sorry folks, I sometimes can't resist fooling around with the color-saturation adjustments in Photoshop.

If you didn't recognize it, that's the Golden Gate Bridge in early morning light.

O.k., a little less saturation -- this is a bit more what it looked like.

Lets see -- maybe it needs a bit wider field of view.

local deer

click photo for full-size image

Life goes on, or at least it is trying, amongst the deer around here in Marin County.   I recently came across these two gentle souls out at Roy's Redwoods, in west Marin County.

I made this shot through a very dirty window -- I should wash it.

And I should try to have my camera "operational" when the deer come walking through.   I usually have the memory card out or something else not ready.

And they DO come walking through my yard -- at all hours -- and this year we have two mothers, one with one fawn and another mother with two.   They are SO cute!

The local deer are feeling a bit safer in the neighborhood since one mother deer gave a pesky dog a good clop a few weeks ago.

The lady who lives upstairs has been leaving a pail of water out for them -- I think the deer appreciate that.   I've heard that if you leave water out for deer they will be less likely to munch on your plants.

July 30th edition of the DailyDuo has two photos of one fawn.

discovery of San Francisco

click photo for full-size image

Every new visit to San Francisco for me is a different experience -- even though I pass by the same places -- I never quite know what I'll find.

CLICK to see another view of this shop taken some time ago.   Usually, if they spot me those young ladies will abrasively wave, while shouting nasty and crude insults like "no pictures".

Now, if I didn't hate my tripod so much, this would be the PERFECT subject to use it on.   The subject is in shade and I really need to be "stopped way down" for some depth-of-field.   Or I could boost my ISO, although I always try to keep it way down at 100 to keep "noise" down if I ever need to make large prints.

So, what's a guy to do?   Turn it into a .GIF with a limited range of available colors.   Works sometimes for that gawd-awful original, like this one, that didn't quite measure-up.

City Lights Bookstore isn't open early.   But while you're waiting you could probably saunter over to Vesuvio and tie-one-on with the friendly croud.   Vesuvio opens at 6AM.   Slurp...

Discovery of San Francisco?   How in the heck did they ever find this hidden bay?   Well, the answer is that San Francisco Bay was so elusive that it wasn't discovered by the White Man until 1769.

Curiously, the discovery, by Gaspar de Portola, was made on an overland expedition over the mountains above Pacifica to the south, not directly by boat.

food in San Francisco's Chinatown

click photo for full-size image

Refrigeration isn't always available in some apartments, so shopping in Chinatown is often done every day, and very little goes to waste.

A high level of competition keeps prices down, quality up, and stores like Safeway out.

The activity at a Chinatown market rarely slows down.   And better watch out -- (Don) -- some of these guys have knives...

Ridgecrest Boulevard, Mt. Tam

The curvy hills up on Ridgecrest Boulevard are only a minor obstruction for encroaching fog.

The area of Ridgecrest Boulevard near the Fairfax-to-Bolinas Road generally stays moist -- perfect for the robust growth of moss.

the Lagunitas Creek flows

Short of a proper scientific explanation -- the Lagunitas Creek flows for no obvious reason, other than flowing is what it knows best.
