insistent honking, forceful flapping

The honk of the Canada Goose is insistent and probably even irritating, but once in a while they will fly directly overhead--silent--except for a ruffled sound from the forceful flapping of their wings.

Once or twice, I have stood beneath a low-flying V of migrating Canada geese and heard the low thrum of the wind in their wings. There are few things in life so thrilling as that wild sound.
