along the way to Point Reyes

There is only one way to get to Point Reyes National Seashore and that is through the tiny yet delightful town of Inverness. This is where you will find the often photographed "Launch for Hire" boat-house. I think this spider-web adds a bit of depth to the scene, and no, I didn't add it with Photoshop.

That's Black Mountain in the early morning. The little bit of water in the photo is just about where my beloved Lagunitas Creek meets the fjord-like Tomales Bay, which widens and leads out to the grand Pacific Ocean.

Also near Inverness is a private residence, Lipnosky's Dacha, with a roofline that makes quite a statement.

Going back in history, the Russians had their eye on Northern California, and farther up the coast at Fort Ross, between 1812 and 1841 they established their southernmost Russian settlement in North America.

These horses were enjoying a different view of Black Mountain, but from this side of the hill, extending over to the lake at Nicasio, it is generally referred to as Elephant Mountain.
