at Duxbury Reef, near Bolinas

In a previous post about Bolinas I explained how the residents don't particularly appreciate tourists swarming into their rustic yet peaceful little town.   It's been an on-going war between the Bolinas Border Patrol and the State Highway Department as to whether there should or should-not be a roadsign on Highway One pointing to their town.

When the State would put up a fresh sign, the Bolinas Border Patrol would promptly "disappear" it in the middle of the night.   This scenario was repeated so many times that the State just gave up on a road-sign for Bolinas.   It's been twenty or thirty years since I've seen a roadsign pointing to Bolinas.

But I told you all of that because on my Thursday excursion I couldn't even find any signs pointing to Duxbury Reef or Agate Beach -- I sort of had to "wing it", and actually did remember the proper route -- I don't go there often.

And what a silly phrase; "I don't go there often"...   With curious creatures like this Blue Heron waiting for me, I definitely should try to get to Duxbury Reef more often.

The small bird (lower left) is a Killdeer, the big bird is a Blue Heron, and the guy with the funny legs was walking around with a clipboard and bending down a lot -- probably counting one thing or another.

This Blue Heron seemed rather un-phased by my relatively close proximity.   No possible way of getting the creature over to Sears Portrait Studio for a formal portrait, so I thought I had better just get a snap or two on location...

Gary got it right, you don't "just take pictures".
You weave an entire story into your photos.

An nice series!! I feel better now. I thought I was the only one who couldn't find the sign to Bolinas! ;)
I remember once or twice driving straight trough and missing the turn... But when you do find it, yes, the place is definitely worth a stop.
