Black Sands Beach

Black Sands Beach is within spitting-distance of the Golden Gate Bridge...   On weekdays the beach is unpopulated, but on weekends you've got to be careful not to step on a nudist...   The hike back up the cliff is a workout...

Salt Point

Not too many people know that Salt Point, about 90 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 1, has an outstanding display of eroding sandstone...   You can find this same type of eroding sandstone at Point Lobos, about 200 miles to the south, but Salt Point definitely puts on more of a show for shutterbugs, artists, and nature lovers...

war machines -- Blue Angels

Friday afternoon I didn't have anything else to do, so I headed down to the area around the Golden Gate Bridge...   Leagues of spectators were gathering, and I finally realized what was up -- the Blue Angels were in town and they were starting their Friday practice session for the big show Saturday and today...   I managed to temporarily suspend my repulsion to anything "war", and enjoyed the graceful turns and forceful charges of the jets...   They are truly incredible machines -- just a shame we live in a world that thinks war is a way to live...
