Welcome to the Point Reyes peninsula, or as it has been officially known since 1962; Point Reyes National Seashore. Here we will find a variety of life--some domesticated, some incarcerated, and some wild.

No bull... I was more than a bit concerned that this fellow might come crashing through the thin barbed wire fence that separated us.

Point Reyes has a long history of dairy farming which continues today.

With the exception of the first photo (landscape) these images are not new, but are snaps that I have accumulated over the past 7 or 8 years. I always let you know when my photos are not brand new.

Tule Elk are not native to the area, but were brought here in order to bring them back from the brink of extinction. I'll tell you more about them tomorrow.

Love that bull photo! Could you have gotten a more typical photo of a bull about to charge??? Wonderful! If he still had his horns, it would have been like the start of a bullfight!

Love the contrast of the gentle cow, too. And did you use a telephoto lens to get so close to the seal?

Hi Zoomie -- Well, I didn't mention that I shot that bull pix right from my car window. I'm not THAT brave.
And the Elephant Seal--well, I was actually in an area I shouldn't have been in--there were signs explaining that when humans get too close it causes a lot of stress for the beasts, and I really wasn't looking for Elephant Seals, but I somehow got within 30 feet or so of this one without realizing it was there. I tried to remain still and quiet but after a few minutes it seemed to be just a little bit concerned about our closeness so I backed off and left the area--I'm lucky I didn't end up with an expensive ticket and/or a stern warning from the rangers. As I remember I was using my zoom at 200mm with a 2x tele-extender.
