One of my favorite places on earth is the sheep grazing and wheat growing area known as Montezuma Hills, between Fairfield and Rio Vista. When I was photographing years ago (((shooting film and Polaroid))), I used to go there frequently to snap the rolling hills.

These Blackbirds (((or whatever they are))) were putting on quite a show. The rancher had recently plowed a swath of ground and the birds were looking for worms and grubs, I suppose.

You've got to come up with your own prose on this one, folks. Words escape me.

Love..love..love the photos of these birds all taking off together. WOW!
Don, your header this morning "Avoid Arrest" is wonderful. Can I have this one?!
;-)
HI MARCIE -- Yes it was quite a sight... I'm about the only person who was there to witness it...
AND HI TANGOBABY -- Sure, that would be a good choice... Love finding out what people choose or like... And I can make the color temperature just a bit less warm for that image -- if you think that would look better...
I think its either practice for the Nutcracker ballet or Swanlake.
They are probably starlings doing that fantastic choerogphy.(help, my spelling is awful)
HI PHOTOWANNABE SUE -- Yes, they are Starlings -- I wanted to write that but wasn't sure -- and they were so well behaved that I thought maybe they weren't... I always see them alone or in groups harassing turkey vultures...
I have seen large swarms of birds like these in England. Yes they are starlings. In fact, last week we had a smaller flock here in Carlsbad doing the same thing. I wish I coulkd get a video of it. IT'S AMAZING.
Awesome catches, Don!
Wow, that is a LOT of birds!!! what unusual and cool shots!
Adore these! Hard to choose but I think my favorite might be the top one for it's complex abstracty goodness.
Beyond cool, Donald.
Wow!
