Every new visit to San Francisco for me is a different experience -- even though I pass by the same places -- I never quite know what I'll find.
CLICK to see another view of this shop taken some time ago. Usually, if they spot me those young ladies will abrasively wave, while shouting nasty and crude insults like "no pictures".

Now, if I didn't hate my tripod so much, this would be the PERFECT subject to use it on. The subject is in shade and I really need to be "stopped way down" for some depth-of-field. Or I could boost my ISO, although I always try to keep it way down at 100 to keep "noise" down if I ever need to make large prints.
So, what's a guy to do? Turn it into a .GIF with a limited range of available colors. Works sometimes for that gawd-awful original, like this one, that didn't quite measure-up.

City Lights Bookstore isn't open early. But while you're waiting you could probably saunter over to Vesuvio and tie-one-on with the friendly croud. Vesuvio opens at 6AM. Slurp...

Discovery of San Francisco? How in the heck did they ever find this hidden bay? Well, the answer is that San Francisco Bay was so elusive that it wasn't discovered by the White Man until 1769.
Curiously, the discovery, by Gaspar de Portola, was made on an overland expedition over the mountains above Pacifica to the south, not directly by boat.

Great series! The City Light bookstore is a real trip for book lovers. Vesuvio is open at 6:00 a.m.? Goodness, who needs beer at that time of the day?!
