volunteer oats

In this corner of the world we probably have more volunteer oats than anything else.   This is the time of year they dry up, but they remain beautiful until the rains beat them down late in the year.   In the mean time their primary purpose seems to be to attach themselves to my socks and wiggle down into my shoes.   A small price to pay for such beauty...

Great capture ... love the soft focus of the background.

Just one thing to get snagged in your socks? Lucky man. I haven't done a precise inventory, but we must have at least a couple of dozen various "stick-tights" in these parts. All work equally well in the hair of our dogs.

Another goal of the oats is to drive my nose and eyes completely crazy. The dried grasses aren't fun.
Beautiful picture and dof.

Thanks all...

And to Marvin -- yes we're pretty lucky not to have too many "snaggers" around here, but foxtails are always a problem too...   I shouldn't try to improve on nature, but each year about this time I try to pull up all the foxtails that grow right along the trail I take out at Roy's Redwoods, otherwise they collect all over my pants legs.

By the way, I had a buddy suggest that I crop that photo, discarding the lower half.   He said a big skinny print would make a good "behind the couch" photo.

Funny, my comment disappeared! Funny, that happened to me on blogger before not long ago. I was saying I like the shot just the way it is. It has an ethereal quality.

Thanks for all of your comments.
This was one of those exceptionally easy photos to take (shot it wide open at f-4 with my 70-200 "L"), and it required very little post-processing in Photoshop.

And sorry your comment disappeared, Tomate Farcie.   Blogger seems to have a mind of it's own sometimes, as I'm sure you already know...   Recently I wasn't paying attention and completely wiped out my post about Tommy's Joynt, so I guess I should go back now and rewrite it.   Spelling, grammar, and punctuation are always a challenge for me, and my penchant for using three dots ... after sentences probably drives people up-the-wall, but really, I can't help myself...

Hey, no worries!

Oh, yeah, I've heard about "3 dots" before ;) (I use them a lot myself, didn't realize they drive people up the wall... Sometimes a period just doesn't do it, though you *need* the 3 dots!!! Oh well.)
