The day before yesterday my buddy over at Web-Pix was showing a photo of his old love -- his first camera -- so I decided to take a picture of my old Calumet 4x5 view camera, which was my main love back in my teenage days. Cool! Believe it or not, I saw a guy take pictures with a camera very similar to this one, only a couple of months ago. It was a real old one, much like those cameras that professional photographers used in the 60's (well in France, at least) He told me he liked that model better to photograph buildings. Hard to carry around, though.
Hi Tomate Farcie,
Yes, view cameras are still around, and are especially useful for architectural photography because you can correct for converging angles with the various swings, tilts, and slides on the camera. Probably the most useful adjustment is is the forward lens tilt -- that increases the depth of field temendously from front to back.
The only thing I don't like about using a view camera is that it attracts a lot attention -- something that a hermit like me tries his best to avoid...
I think your nature and landscape shots are right up there with the very best.
