sunrise at China Camp

Over the years I've shown you quite a bit of China Camp -- it's a place I love, mainly for it's solitude. That's "Rat Island", just off of China Camp Village, but I don't think Rat Island is it's true name. I need to stop by the little China Camp museum to check the old map they have on display.

These ripples were cooperating, but that often isn't the case. Many times I'll see a pattern in the distance, but when I get closer the scene starts to sort of "fall apart". I think I got lucky here. Mother Nature isn't always willing to give up her designs.

But here was an easy shot. I usually don't mention details of my exposure, but I shot this at ISO-100, f-4, at 1/1000 of a second, and no bloody tripod.

Several minutes before that big ball-of-fire makes it's appearance seems to be when the colors are most intense.

And finally, the sun arrives with the start of a new day. I suppose this world would be rather boring without this cycle of darkness and light. Nice planet we live on -- just too bad man has been working so diligently in his efforts to pillage and destroy our air, water, and other natural resources.
