Sausalito, before the crack of dawn

You may have heard of Sausalito -- it's a great place to view the San Francisco skyline, and if your pockets are lined with cash you just might find some art from one of the many galleries to take home.
Me? Well, I usually go into Sausalito before the crack of dawn -- before the onslaught of tourists. I'm always curious to check up on what types of atmospherics might be happening over Angel Island as the sun contemplates rising.

And while I wait I have time to watch ships heading to and from the Golden Gate.

It seems like such an effort for that sun to make it's appearance. First it has to climb over Angel Island and then ascend the heights of fog. But these are moments to savor -- once that hot ball of light gets too high in the sky most bets are off for successful photography.

So you photogs -- yawn -- you probably already know this -- but it's always good to get an early start. Look what I found!

Oh my Don....that blossom is stunning. Your lighting makes it look like a watercolor. A+++ and 3 gold stars!
I just read that its Donald Ducks' birthday today. Think he was "born" in 1935. Just a passing thought as I look at your profile picture. (:0)
I have to agree with wannabe: this photo is fabulous, especially because of the lighting. I don't want to sound like I know stuff, because I really don't, but the bokeh, if I'm using the term correctly, is as necessary a part of this photo as is the flower. I do know about the early rule, and I believe 10:20 am is the earliest I have ever started a hike. I know I miss the best bugs and butterflies, but hey, it's my day off!
Hi PHOTOWANNABE SUE and HOOLY -- Yep, that was a fun shot to shoot -- the light bokeh was coming from a chandelier inside the old BofA building, which, believe it or not, is still a bank. The flower is from one of Sausalito's many hanging baskets.
That flower shot is amazing. I was thinking of you today when I was trying to photograph jelly fish at the Academy of Sciences.
Oh wow, hi there JANICE -- long time no hear... Yep, I got snookered down at the Monterey Bay Aquarium with the jellyfish -- they had the exhibit closed. Wow, was I ever disappointed... I've only been to the Academy of Sciences once shortly after it opened -- I should definitely go again.
