just like a broken record - same old Northbeach

I suppose the younger generation would have no idea of what a "broken-record" is -- you see we used to spin a flat vinyl platter on what was called a "record player", and a "needle" would follow a spiral groove. It was on the sides of those grooves that the music information was stored in the form of many millions of bumps and depressions. "Records" needed to be handled with care -- if the one long continuous groove was interrupted with a scratch or a piece of dirt, we called the record "broken" -- it would play the same groove over and over and over and over and over.

So, just like a broken-record, I have spent many a Sunday morning going over to San Francisco to shoot photos in Northbeach and nearby Chinatown. Usually I end up shooting the exact same subjects, although I try my best to keep making improvements.

I always like to check out Goorin Brothers Hat Shop on Stockton Street, just across from Washington Square. They usually have a rather creative display. Currently they are featuring Panama hats.

Coit Tower and a streetlight -- yep, I can never pass it up.

And the Flying Books with Transamerica Pyramid in the background -- I must have shot the combination a million times. And a million times I've marveled -- muttering to myself; "Hey, that's really far-out". Do kids still say "far-out"? Come back tomorrow, kids, and I'll do my level best to explain.

No, they don't say "far out" anymore. Last I heard that expression was in the early 80's and I suspect that was because that guy was out of it and didn't know it was the 80's ;)

I think they say "it's tight, it's rad, it's phat" <--- but even those are disappearing in favor of more recent expressions like "it's pretty bad-ass" and others I forget but don't take my word for it.

I love Northbeach, SF. It is a unique place to wander around, and every photo has to be different even if you shoot the same subjects. I love the photo of the old camera. Recently I received an old one, and I have it on display in my office. Nice post. Do you suggest any great places to stay in Northbeach, like a B&B so one can walk and not drive around? I was there many years ago and I long to return.
