more from the woods

Well, after using this shot yesterday as my banner photo, I realized that I was going to be in big trouble today because I really didn't think I had any more new photos to go along with it.   I thought the best solution would be to head back out to Samuel P. Taylor State Park and see if I could dig up any more photos.

And this is what I found.

And of course I can never resist letting my imagination run wild in the creek.

And while everything else is pretty much dry and brown, ferns have an artistic side to them that begs to be recorded.

Yesterday I was mentioning how almost all the redwoods out at Taylor State Park are second growth redwoods -- sprouted from the roots of the cut or toppled trees.   This is the most common way redwood trees begin their life cycle.   Redwood trees can grow from seed, but it actually requires a forest fire to crack the tightly closed cones open so the seeds can be expelled for a chance at germination.

THANKS FOR THE COMMENT RHETT,
You know, I didn't think the fern shot was much of a photo -- sometimes I feel I'm the least qualified to judge my own work... Sometimes I'll get emotionally attached to a photo and think it is super good, when in fact it isn't... Other times, like the fern shot, I won't think it's so hot, but then others like it... (((is going to make it difficult to chose some selections for the Fair this year)))
By the way, everybody, I met Rhett earlier this year because of the photo exhibit at the fair -- Rhett managed to sell a print! Check out his blog -- there's a link on my sidebar.

I so need to just get up and go out to take more pictures to go with one I want to post. Maybe in another life. I love the creek one. The trees are always impressive.
