When Point Reyes became a National Seashore in the early 1960's the area was largely used for dairy ranching. Thanks to deals worked out with ranchers, Point Reyes it is still used for that purpose.

That's Chimney Rock at the very tip of the land-mass in the distance. If you ask me, up close Chimney Rock doesn't look anything like a chimney, but the isolated and harsh area has one of the finest displays of wildflowers on the west coast of California. The wind usually makes wildflower photography as difficult as possible.

This is an old shot of Douglas Iris. Life can get kind of dreary on the ranch -- thought the Iris would add some color to this post.

Most of the buildings on this dairy ranch are old, and some are even older.

I don't think too many old tanker trucks get any crustier than this.

Gotta love these farmers for their ingenuity. But I doubt if they ever stand back to admire their accidental artistry.

Love the Pt. Reyes farms! The happy California cows from that dumb commercial surely come from here.
That photo in your header is GORGEOUS! Where was it taken? I love the tree tunnel.
HI ADAM -- Yep, happy cows fer sure... I'm going to have to get back out there and get some cow shots... (((and I swear I saw them filming one of those silly cheese commercials out near the Cheese Factory a few years ago)))
AND HI TANGOBABY -- That Cypress Tree Tunnel is out at the old RCA receiving station (KPH) about a mile past Johnson's Oyster Farm.
Tomorrow I will be showing this photo and a few more of the Inverness and Point Reyes area, but then on Saturday I'm going to show you what's inside the old RCA station -- something right out of the past... Stay tuned...
Love the weathered wood in that top photo -- and the beautiful wildflower too.
