Beautiful "kittys". I love the action and such clarity.

Thanks Evlahos, Plug1, and Photowannabe Sue for the comments.

The zoo has gotten a lot of bad press lately (and over the years as well), but it was hard not to notice the reinforced and heightened viewing areas they've recently installed for the lions and tigers.   The "lads" who got mauled were taunting the animals by throwing items at Tatania and sticking their arms and legs into the cage.

(Nope, Plug1, that isn't Tatania -- they "had" to shoot her after she escaped back in December)

Overall, the zoo looked dull and tired, and many of the exhibits, like the reptile house, were closed.   The bear grottos, except for one polar bear, were empty as far as I could see.

Anyway, the whole thing is a shame, because the zoo was finally starting to turn a profit after many years of dwindling attendance.   I have mixed emotions about zoos, as I'm sure everybody has...

Such lovely photos of Mama taking care of her babies. :-D I like the one of her licking her little one.

It's sad to hear about the conditions of the zoo and what happened with Tatania. It sure made the news out our way, too.

A.

You really do have some wonderful photographs. Of course I love the tiger ones -- cats being one of my favorites, but that sunset is fantastic. I especially like the grass in front.

While I agree that the zoo should have ensured that the tigers could *never* escape under any circumstances (for obvious reasons), I also find it very difficult to feel sorry for these kids. I really hate to feel that way, but the thought that these kids got what they deserved has crossed my mind a couple of times. Sorry.

Beautiful collage, by the way, awesome shots. Beautiful animals, too.

(Sorry about the rant.)
