China Camp, part 2

Say Wa Jen Ha Lio and you've said something similar to China Camp in Mandarin.   Put some emphasis and feeling behind it and you have a song...   Add the hundreds of immigrants who used to live and work there and you have an opera...

China Camp Heritage Day was held as usual on the last Saturday in August, but regretfully that was one day after I sent my camera off to the Canon Repair Department, so I sort of moped around at the bash like a fish-out-of-water.

There were way too many people wanting a ride on the newly built (wind powered) Grace Quan, but the venerable (and motorized) Alma had come over from San Francisco's Hyde Street Pier to help out.   It was fun to see both maneuver at the dock -- the wind-powered Grace Quan did quite nicely once she got pointed in the proper direction.

Must be a story about the burn marks on the door frame -- I had never noticed them before, although I've shot this general scene many times before.

This beautifully rusted pipe was the vent for the boiler, used in both shrimp blanching and drying processes.
